Amazing how this surfaces AFTER that movie with Christianson and Alba appears about that guy waking up during surgery.

I've heard about this a few years ago, can't remember where. The odds are against it happening, still it happens to an awful lot of people if the statistics are correct. The scary part is it leaves you phyically unable to react, but mentally not only are you awake, but able to listen and feeling the pain.
I would say the best option would be to develop a new kind of anethesia.

Don't be scared. The pain is temporary and the doctors are trying to help your body. It'll heal within seconds anyway.
Humans can heal that fast right?

heard about this several years ago after seeing something on tv about it. Totally ranks up there as one of my greatest fears because one patient described it as "Pure hell."
Can you imagine the intense pain as they have you cut open and are digging around inside your body? Not a pain I ever want to know.

Someone wrote a book about that... *googles* Ah yeh, Flashback, by Michael Palmer. Scared the hell out of me.
I only have been through one surgery, a nose correction (a broken nose is not that pretty, so I had to have it fixed >.<) Nothing weird happened, thankmelandru (keeping it in the GW style ).

Surgeries can last for hours. Just imagine being physically unable to react while feeling white-hot pain for hours. That's the definition of torture.

I'd prefer to be awake, as I've heard of documented cases where people have gone under anasthetic and never woken up.

Well, you can also die if the pain is too much. this is just terrible. This i why i HATE surgery. I wish they would speed nanotechnology up so we never have to have go to a hospital , but yea thatll happen in liek 12341234 years lol.

I'd much rather die like this than die in pain from waking up in surgery.

Ya, that would be one of the worst things to happen. I'm pretty sure the move called "Awake" is based on this.
